Approaching the house from
the street you have absolutely no idea what you are about to
feast your eyes upon. An unpromising driveway ends at a
large rustic wooden door, then like Alice in Wonderland,
upon entering you are overwhelmed by the paradise seen
before you. Welcoming you is a stone elephant spouting water
from its trunk into a lily pond beside a path leading
through the garden towards a charming, verandahed villa.
There are three bedrooms in
the main house and two guest cottages - perfect for privacy
if friends are sharing. The kitchen is new, modern and fully
equipped. Two spacious open plan living areas with large
French windows invite indoors the outdoor greenery.
The owner is a garden lover
and is justifiably proud of the tropical flowers, lush
foliage and manicured lawns - which include a croquet pitch
and badminton court. The stylish pool area has a teak deck
with chaise lounges for sun lovers and also a shady Balinese
style balé - heaven for curling up with a good book or
idling the hours away.
The villa has been entirely
refurbished this year. Each air-conditioned bedroom is
individually styled and features an ensuite bathroom. All
bedrooms have large sized beds, feather pillows, 100%
Egyptian sheets and are shrouded in dreamy, cotton mosquito
net canopies. Closing the curtains ensures the rooms are
dark, quiet and cool. Flooring is either rich hardwood or
traditional patterned Javanese tiles in warm earthy tones.
Upstairs, the master bedroom’s large windows overlook the
garden foliage. The ensuite bathroom is in antique teak with
an enticing deep terrazzo bath.
The English owners have
lived in Asia for twelve years and their sense of style and
eclectic tastes are vividly reflected throughout the villa’s
exquisite colonial style décor. Stone carvings, decorative
wood detailing, batik fabrics and various Indonesian
traditional crafts blend harmoniously with other Asian
touches. Jim Thompson silks, antique red Chinese cabinetry
and Burmese artefacts reveal the owner’s background as a
professional art consultant and avid collector.
The house is truly a ‘home’
and one of the nicest on the island for this reason; it is
used to being lived in by a family so it benefits from
personal features such as the art collection, extensive
library, music selection, film collection and a variety of
board games.
The staff all speak English
and are perfectly used to a fully working household with
guests. Villa Nyepi proves ideal for entertaining for either
small and intimate or large formal scale dinners. For a
truly memorable evening, the table can be beautifully set in
the garden under the stars with white linen, silverware,
flowers and candles. Dinners are cooked by our excellent
chef, who shops inexpensively at local markets, and is
served by our well trained staff. The staff are available to
run errands and handle a multitude of requests - organizing
various specialist masseurs (reflexologists, shiatsu,
traditional Indonesian etc) to visit the house.
The central location of
Villa Nyepi is unbeatable. Within a stone’s throw of
Legian’s vibrant shopping stretch, the street positively
bursts with local life and colour. An easy stroll to
restaurants, vibrant nightlife, funky stores, brilliant
beauty parlours, and specialist massage salons - guests
rarely need to stray far from home.
Only a few minutes by car
is the beach where the refreshing sea breezes clear
stressful thoughts away. The surf is excellent for swimming
and boogie boarding, and the beach is ideal for viewing
local life. The famous sunsets are best enjoyed with
cocktails at one of the chic beachside restaurants or bars.
